From the MRA –
There are a lot of good things happening so let’s get started!
Registration for the 2017 Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race continues to tick upward: 83 boats registered total as of this time/date – 50 for Cove Island, 33 for Shore course. Don’t forget to register if you haven’t already done so. As an added incentive, Offshore Racing Association (ORA) has announced an initiative for the first ten boats that register for both CYC’s Race to Mackinac (sailed under ORR) and the Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race Shore course (sailed under ORR-EZ) – the first five boats to register for both races will be reimbursed for their ORR-EZ certificate cost 100%, the second five boats to register for both races will receive a 50% refund of the ORR-EZ certificate cost. Thank you to the ORA for this special offer. Take advantage of it at your earliest opportunity.
Bell’s Brewery has signed on as the title sponsor again this year. We are excited about that and are already in the planning stages of the Bell’s Beer Oasis tent in Port Huron which will be open Thursday and Friday, July 20 & 21st.
Also, we are pleased to announce a sponsorship deal with Gill supported by Coral Reef Sailing Apparel who will be the official merchandiser for the Race. Official Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race gear can be found on our website, www.bycmack.com, and will be available for sale in Port Huron and Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel and the Island Awards Party.
This year, the Shore course will have its own USCG Auxiliary vessel following the fleet up the course to the Island! The Rachel M is a 39 ft. sailing vessel who will be crewed by officers of the USCG Auxiliary and will work in coordination with the USCG cutter that follows the Cove Island fleet. Unlike the participants racing up the course, the Rachel M will have the capacity to proceed under engine power should the need arise.
Super Mac 2017 may be just around the corner. At least 10 boats have indicated an interest but we’d like about 15 boats for a firm commitment. As that race starts in Chicago, please let the CYC Race to Mackinac Chairman, Don Maxwell, know at your earliest convenience should you be interested in participating (email@example.com).
Only 157 days left until the race!
