Dear Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race Skippers, Crew, Sponsors and Spectators:

July approaches fast with warm weather and fair sailing conditions. Race preparations are moving along with less than three weeks before the Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race, and we hope to see all of you there!

Race Committee:

There are more than 165 volunteers that are needed to run this race and we could not do it without them. If you see one of our volunteers in their “Race Committee” shirt, please take a moment to thank them. On Sunday, June 23rdwe hosted our annual cookout for the Race Committee. We recognized “Old Fort” Richard Backoff for his 15 years of service on the Mackinac Race Committee. We also recognized Race Committee Person of the Year, Gary Viola. You can read about Gary’s commitment to the race in this year’s Race Program. Congratulations to Richard and Gary!

Recently, BYC Governor Lance Smotherman, US Sailing certified National Judge, provided a seminar for our Inspection Committee on inspection protocol and how to properly fill out a protest form. We are continually educating our race committee and greatly appreciate Gov. Smotherman’s assistance. Thank you, Lance.

Safety Equipment Requirements:

Please review the Safety Equipment Requirements on the race website, www.bycmack.com. I encourage you to review your flares to make sure that you have the correct flares and that they have not passed their expiration date. Check the First Aid Kit. Most importantly, make sure you are familiar with the PFD you will be wearing during the race. If the PFD is provided by your skipper, make sure it fits properly over your gear and you know how it operates. It’s easier to figure these things out on the dock than during the race.

Looking for Crew:

If you need more crew for the race please check out the "Crew Board" under "Race Information" on the website. We have a lot of people looking for rides to Mackinac.

Sailing Instructions:

There is an old adage that says ... if you want to keep a secret from the sailors, put it in the Sailing Instructions. The Sailing Instructions have been posted on the race website, www.bycmack.comPlease don't let them be a secret to you!

Crew Substitutions:

Each year the Race Committee boat at the starting line receives race day crew substitutions from competitors over VHF channel 71. This is a reminder that the RC does not approve those substitutions, they merely record them. Each competitor is required to ensure that any crew substitution does not exceed the crew weight declared on their ORR or ORR-EZ certificate. Your crew weight will not be measured by the Race Committee, but you are subject to protest by a competitor.

Finish Line:

We ask that you use your Reflective Sailboard (as outlined in both Monohull and Multihull SER 3.13) as required by the Sailing Instructions. If you do not use your reflective sailboard as outlined in the Sailing Instructions, you will be subject to protest by the Race Committee. If you need a new placard, we have a vendor who will make them for $125 plus tax. You can contact Bill Lince of SIGN MAN at 586-915-6430.

Docking Procedures:

Like last year, our Harbor Committee and Inspection Committee will have LED lighted arm bands and colored t-shirts so that you can easily identify them. Harbor Committee will be green and the Inspection Committee will be red.

We hope to have all new boats inspected before the race so that any deficiencies can be identified and resolved. Post-race inspections may be directed to use the Inspection Dock identified on the Mackinac Island Harbor Map on the Main Dock.

Once you’ve finished the race, please follow radio instructions outlined in the Sailing Instructions for docking and inspections.

Official BBBMR Merchandise:

Official race SWAG is now available on the Bayview Mack website atwww.bycmack.com.Lots of great clothing, so check it out.

Please go to our website often where we will post all competitor notifications and updates, as well as the calendar of important dates. www.bycmack.com
